Scrapbook Organizer by Wickey Stecker
If you love scrapbooks, and putting them together, you are probably already well aware of the mess this hobby can make of your home. If you don’t have a space you can totally devote to your scrapbook supplies, you probably have stuff piled up in a corner or in the closet somewhere, much like I do. If you have a huge mess, and find that you can’t keep up with your supplies, you had better look into getting a scrapbook organizer or two to help you clean up and stay organized.
You can buy almost anything for a scrapbook organizer. You can buy some that are specifically made just for scrapbook supplies. These come with pockets to organize your papers, some for your pens, others for stencils, and small pockets and drawers for embellishments and other small objects. This type of scrapbook organizer is great if you don’t have a lot of stuff, but if you have more, you might need to buy something a little larger.
You can use other things for a scrapbook organizer if you look around for something else. You might find something with a lot of small nooks and crannies that isn’t necessarily made for scrapbook materials, but will work just fine. These might include jewelry boxes for small items, or large plastic storage units for your books and papers. You might also consider something that hangs from the wall to keep your writing utensils, scissors, and rulers organized.
You might also find an under-the-bed rolling container to use as a scrapbook organizer. This is perfect if you don’t have a lot of room, and want to keep things hidden. Find one that will slip right under your bed, fill it up with your supplies, and pull it out when you need it. You can use smaller items to keep the tiny objects and tools together, and keep them right in the larger container.
If you have the space, you can have someone build you a permanent scrapbook organizer. This can include a large working space for scrap booking and various shelves and holds for all of your needed items. You can have this built in a space you always use for your hobbies, and this can double as study space for your children when you are not doing your scrapbooks. If you don’t have anyone to build this type of scrapbook organizer for you, find a good desk that will suit your needs instead.

Adventures in Bookbinding: Handcrafting Mixed-Media Books $24.99 Each project in this book combines bookbinding with a specific craft such as quilting, jewelry making, or polymer clay, and offer levels of expertise: basic, novice, and expert.  Illustrated step-by-step instructions and photographs demonstrate how to construct the cover pages, and a unique binding technique, easy enough for a beginner to master. Each project also features two other versions with the same binding geared to those with more or less experience.  The novice version is for those who have no knowledge of the craft and want shortcuts, but love the look.  For the quilter’s book, for example, vintage quilt pieces become the covers so all that’s needing in the binding.  Or if you’re interested in wool felting use an old sweater.  This offers great opportunities for upcycling. The expert version is for those who have a great deal of knowledge and proficiency of a certain craft – the master art quilter, for example.  For this version, an expert guest artist has created the cover and the author has created the binding.  This offers yet another creative opportunity – the collaborative project.  Since crafters often get involved with round-robins and other shared endeavors, this will show them yet another way to combine their skills. No other craft book offers the possibilities and challenges that Adventures in Bookbinding does.  Readers will return to it again and again to find inspiration and ideas.Jeannine Stein has been making books for more than fifteen years, exploring bindings, mediums, and techniques. In addition to teaching book-binding, she is an award-winning journalist, and she has written extensively about paper crafts-artists’ books, scrapbooking, rubber stamping, and letterpress. She is the author of Re-Bound: Creating Handmade Books with Recycled and Repurposed Materials, (Quarry Books, 2009).  |
